Hans-Peter Porsche TraumWerk
Not far from Salzburg lies the Hans-Peter Porsche TraumWerk [dream works], an inviting place for a day trip to Anger in the Bavarian region of Berchtesgaden. The toy collection is more than a mere exhibition – it is the perfect destination for a family outing.
With much to marvel at, Der Achter [the loop] is one of Europe's largest publicly accessible private collection of tin toys. It comprises some 2,100 exhibits dating from 1860 to 1930, some of which are rarities – though always fully functional.
The model railway exhibition at the TraumWerk comprises around 190 trains from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, more than 8,000 figures and 80,000 trees, buildings and scenes from everyday life. Even thunder and lightning are simulated to round off the spectacle.
Changing special exhibitions, a colourful children's programme even in rainy weather, the TraumWerk restaurant with its kids' menu, a large adventure playground and the opportunity to take a real train through the park make the Hans-Peter Porsche TraumWerk a unique family destination in any weather.
