Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac
Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac in Mirabellgarten park is one of the flagships of the Salzburg gallery scene. It specialises in international contemporary art, currently representing around 60 artists and prestigious estates.
The gallery fulfils a number of roles. It is active on the primary and secondary art markets, advises museums and public institutions on their purchases, and curates private collections. Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac also acts as a publishing house, producing its own publications and catalogues to accompany exhibitions.
Born in Klagenfurt, Austria, in 1960, Thaddaeus Ropac began his career in 1981 in Lienz. Two years later he opened his first gallery in the Kaigasse in Salzburg. In 1995 the gallery moved to Villa Kast, a venue steeped in history on Mirabellplatz Square. In March 2010 the gallery was extended to include an exhibition room of over 2500m² in an industrial building – the ‘Salzburg Halle’. International growth came with the establishment of galleries in Paris (1990), Paris Pantin (2012), London (2017) and Seoul (2021).
