hiking trail Ruperti Weitwanderweg 10
Named after St Rupert, the patron saint of Salzburg, the 560km Ruperti Trail crosses the provinces of Upper Austria, Salzburg and Carinthia.
Starting from Oberndorf and passing the pilgrimage church of Maria Plain, a variant of the Ruperti Trail leads along the River Salzach into the heart of Salzburg's Old Town. The alternative route takes you over the Gaisberg and alongside the Glasenbach to Hellbrunn.
This long-distance trail stretches from Bärenstein in the Bohemian Forest to Nassfeld in Carinthia and is part of European Long-Distance Trail E10. It takes about 25 days to cover the entire 560 km. Some of the mountains are as much as 2800 meters above sea level, so surefootedness and a head for heights are essential.
