Carnival of the Animals – an Animal Trilogy
The Salzburg Marionette Theatre is a „big“ theatre with „small“ actors. For more than 100 years, the puppets have enchanted grown-ups and children alike. The visitors are taken to a magical world of opera, fairy tale, or musical.
In an entertaining hour, the Salzburg Marionette Theatre tells three musical animal stories:
That of the little elephant Babar (book by Jean de Brunhoff, music by Francis Poulenc), who flees to a city and begins to live like a human being;
that of the young bull Ferdinand (book by Munro Leaf, music by Alan Ridout), who has other preferences than his wild peers;
and Saint-Saëns' famous Carnival of the Animals in a poetic reinterpretation.
