Körper // Gesellschaft
The human body is the central arena for social processes. As the interface between the individual and society, it conveys messages, both consciously and unconsciously. Ideally, it functions as an agent of freedom and self-expression, but at the same time becomes a projection surface for social expectations. This tension between surveillance and self-determination characterises their existence as well as their role as a means of communication. Gestures, facial expressions and physical expressions often unfold their effect beyond spoken language and carry universal messages into social contexts. The exhibition focuses on the interactions that manifest themselves between the body as a social symbol and its individual expressive power and reflects on the role of society as a passive observer and active creator.
