Salzburg's Tower Concerts at Festung Hohensalzburg

Trumpet music from the Trumpet Tower is a tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages and was revived in Salzburg in 2016. Every Sunday, trumpeters play baroque fanfares at Hohensalzburg Fortress.

The original role of the court and field trumpeters was to detect and signal approaching danger. The Trumpet Tower at Hohensalzburg Fortress was built in 1465 specifically for this purpose. Until 1800, trumpet music was considered purely utilitarian, which is why very few compositions have survived. In Salzburg, however, music for festive marches has been preserved in the archives of Nonntal Abbey.

Since 2016, Salzburg trumpeters have been playing these pieces on the Trumpet Tower. Experience the concerts at Hohensalzburg Fortress, on the Mönchsberg or in the streets of the historic city centre.

Every Sunday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
