Salzburger HirtenAdvent (shepherds' advent)
The musical genre of "Advent singing" was born in Salzburg and is still an indispensable part of the pre-Christmas period in the town of Mozart. The Salzburger HirtenAdvent in the University auditorium is one of the most important events of this traditional form of music and presents a charming performance with folk music and shepherd children.
The Salzburger HirtenAdvent, directed by Josef Radauer combines authentic folk music with thought-provoking lyrics in the tradition of Tobi and Tobias Reiser. The family atmosphere and the splendid flock of shepherd children inspire the audience in an incomparable way.
Known until 2017 as the Tobi Reiser Adventsingen, the Salzburg Shepherd Advent Festival has its roots in the Advent festival at the Great Festival Hall. In 2006, companions of Tobi and Tobias Reiser decided to move to the more intimate setting of the University Auditorium and concentrate on traditional folk music. Today, around 6,000 visitors a year experience a quaint and refined Advent concert, which is considered the perfect way to get in the mood for Christmas.
The Salzburg Shepherd Advent 2024 looks at the events surrounding the birth of Jesus, which have so decisively shaped our culture through the Gospel of Luke, from an extremely female perspective. After many years, Maria returns to Nazareth and meets her childhood friend Esther. Many memories are awakened and the two women summarize life and the different, often unexpected turns.
