Chamber Concert
With the Frauenstimmen concert series, which has taken place regularly since 2010, the Maria Anna Mozart Society organizes the longest-running concert series in Austria dedicated to the music of female composers. Only programs whose music is at least 75 percent by female composers will be accepted.
„My Tones Calm and Cheerful…“ Songs by female composers of the 19th & 20th centuries.
Stephan Loges (baritone) and Antonio Oyarzabal (piano) present songs by Sophia Westenholz (1759–1838), Josephine Lang (1815–1880), Johanna Kinkel (1810–1858), Elisabeth von Herzogenberg (1874–1892), Liza Lehmann (1862-1918), Maude Valerie White (1855–1937), Rebecca Clarke (1886-1979), Freda Swain (1902–1985), Ivy Mason Whipp (*1920) and others.
The songs of these remarkable composers, whose works often lived in the shadow of their male contemporaries, span a range from Romanticism to the 21st century and are characterized by their poetic expressiveness and subtle melodies.
