Heroic and transfigured – The Peasants’ War reflected in art and dictatorship
Salzburg Museum Guest Performance: An exhibition of the Salzburg Museum in the DomQuartier Salzburg/Nordoratorium.
In 2025, the uprising of the Salzburg tradespeople, miners, and farmers – commonly referred to as the Salzburg Peasant War – against their ruler, Archbishop Matthäus Lang von Wellenburg, will commemorate its 500th anniversary.
The guest exhibition planned in the northern oratory of the cathedral for this anniversary aims to illustrate the historical events, shed light on the living conditions of farmers, miners, and mercenaries in the 16th century, and focus on the art historical engagement with the topic from the perspective of its instrumentalization by political ideologies in the 20th century.
