Reflected. Art as a mirror of society
The exhibition REFLECTED. Art as a mirror of society illuminates one of the central themes of the Böhme Collection and thus of the art of the Lost Generation: Society through the ages.
The artists of this generation reflect the social and political changes of their time in their works - from the effects of the First World War and the founding of the republics through the period of National Socialism and the Second World War to the post-war period.
With around 40 exhibits, the exhibition tells of individual impressions of society, but also of clichés, of emotions and ultimately of contemporary history from the perspective of the young generation of classical modernism. The focus is on four themes: cityscapes from home and exile, scenes of public life such as café and bar scenes, expressive portraits and finally political works of art as a ruthless commentary on their time.
