Carl Heinrich Maria Orff (1895-1982) was a German composer and music teacher. "Die Kluge", first performed in Frankfurt am Main in 1943, is one of the most popular operas of the 20th century. It is based on the fairy tale "The Clever Farmer's Daughter" by the Brothers Grimm, which Carl Orff expanded on.
