Salzburg Philharmonic Orchestra
Classical music is for everyone - that is the firm belief of the Salzburg Philharmonie. You can expect all sorts of surprises in the colourful repertoire.
Philharmonie Salzburg boasts probably the lowest average age of any Salzburg orchestra. It is mainly made up of students and recent graduates of Mozarteum University. The ensemble was founded in 1998 by conductor Elisabeth Fuchs and has been directed by her ever since. Philharmonie Salzburg indulges itself in a veritable potpourri of styles: from Ancient Music to Classical and Contemporary.
The fresh perspective brought by the young musicians is reflected in their unconventional repertoire: Philharmonie Salzburg is famous for its cross-over projects such as “Mozart goes Jazz” and the presentation of rarely performed works. They have also been involved in premieres for a number of contemporary composers.
Philharmonie Salzburg is dedicated to interesting people of all ages in classical music. Its most important project is the Children’s Festival, which the orchestra has hosted annually since 2007. Through concerts aimed at families and teens, a younger audience is playfully and interactively introduced to classical music.
