Summer in Salzburg starts around Whitsun. In 2024, the Christian festival will take place on 19 and 20 May and this long weekend is ideal for a short trip to the Mozart Town. In addition to high culture at the Salzburg Whitsun Festival, there are also exciting events and urban experiences outdoors.
Musical highlight: the Salzburg Whitsun Festival
The 'Salzburg Whitsun Festival' is a renowned music festival that has been held annually in Salzburg at Whitsun since 1973 and is primarily dedicated to opera, classical concerts and special musical rarities.
Sounds of the Serenissima
The 2025 festival has the motto 'Sounds of the Serenissima' and is dedicated to Venetian music from the last five centuries. A central piece of the festival is the scenic pasticcio 'Hotel Metamorphosis', which combines music by Antonio Vivaldi with Ovid's 'Metamorphoses'. Additionally, Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata will be performed in concert, and the Hamburg Ballet will present John Neumeier's choreography for Death in Venice.
