Whitsun in Salzburg
Summer in Salzburg starts around Whitsun. In 2024, the Christian festival will take place on 19 and 20 May and this long weekend is ideal for a short trip to the Mozart Town. In addition to high culture at the Salzburg Whitsun Festival, there are also exciting events and urban experiences outdoors.
Musical highlight: the Salzburg Whitsun Festival
The Whitsun Festival was founded in 1973 by Herbert von Karajan and offers sophisticated productions with world-class artists. In 2024, the title of the festival says it all: "Tutto Mozart" is a tribute to the work of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Event tips
Of course, the Whitsun weekend offers more than just high culture. The Salzach Galleries, Austria's largest open-air art bazaar along the banks of the River Salzach, the Salzburger Dult, the popular folk festival for all ages, and the exhibition Holy Places - Views by Hubert Sattler are just three tips for your stay in Salzburg.
Urban experiences
Salzburg is a manageable size and can be explored perfectly well on foot. The pleasant temperatures around Whitsun are ideal for the many themed walks on offer. Follow Mozart's footsteps, explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site or discover the creative side of Salzburg. The outdoor seating areas of the cafés and restaurants are great places to sit down and enjoy a light refreshment while watching the world go by.
