Dirndl meets Hollywood
The world-famous Hollywood film “The Sound of Music” celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2025. A special exhibition at the Salzburger Heimatwerk honors the anniversary and the connection between the von Trapp family and Austrian traditional costumes.
Salzburg Museum Guest Performance: An exhibition of the Salzburg Museum at the 'Salzburger Heimatwerk'
The von Trapp family has maintained close ties with the Salzburger Heimatwerk for decades, a connection that continues to this day. This interplay of traditional costumes, the film's anniversary, and the new “Sound of Music” museum, set to open in Hellbrunn in 2026, is the inspiration for a special exhibition by the Salzburg Museum at the Salzburger Heimatwerk.
The exhibition features objects from the Roger Pluijm Collection, items from the von Trapp family held by the Salzburg Museum, as well as dirndls and correspondence from the Salzburger Heimatwerk. Film enthusiasts can also purchase the "anniversary dirndl," based on original designs, at the Heimatwerk. The exhibition offers a glimpse into the upcoming “Sound of Music Salzburg – Museum for The Sound of Music and the von Trapp family”.
