Salzburg Festival Whitsun 2025 - Death in Venice
The Salzburg Whitsun Festival of 2025 will feature music spanning five centuries, either created in Venice, inspired by its rich cultural legacy, or composed in tribute to this timeless city.
Death in Venice
The ballet choreography Death in Venice, inspired by Thomas Mann's novella, was created by John Neumeier for the Hamburg Ballet. Poised between theatricality and melodrama, it portrays the secret desire of an ageing artist, whose last great love proves his downfall.
A dance of death by John Neumeier based on the novella of the same name by Thomas Mann with music by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) and Richard Wagner (1813-1883) (Orchestral works from recording).
A guest performance by the Hamburg Ballet
