Salzburg Festival Whitsun 2025 - La Traviata

The Salzburg Whitsun Festival of 2025 will feature music spanning five centuries, either created in Venice, inspired by its rich cultural legacy, or composed in tribute to this timeless city.

La traviata
Giuseppe Verdi's opera La traviata, premièred on 6 March 1853 in the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, marks a turning-point in the history of opera. For the first time, a tragic opera plot was based on a contemporary story, of which the chief protagonist is the socially ostracised Parisian courtesan Violetta Valéry.
