Salzburg Festival Whitsun 2025 - Rossini in Venice
The Salzburg Whitsun Festival of 2025 will feature music spanning five centuries, either created in Venice, inspired by its rich cultural legacy, or composed in tribute to this timeless city.
Rossini in Venice
Venice played an important role in Gioachino Rossini's career. In 1813, he gained recognition with his opera seria Tancredi, while in that same year his comic genius developed to the full with L’italiana in Algeri. With Semiramide (1823) – premièred, like Tancredi, at the Teatro La Fenice – Rossini bade farewell to the Italian opera stage.
