St. Rupert's Day Fair
September 19 - 24, 2025
Every year around September 24th, the Rupertikirtag is held in honor of Saint Rupert around the Salzburg Cathedral. Historical rides, market stalls with regional delicacies, and a beer tent are among the highlights of this traditional church fair.
Dt Rupert’s Day is celebrated as part of the tradition of a cathedral festival. For over 40 years and over five days, the squares around Salzburg cathedral are transformed into a stage for customs, folk music, brass band music, traditional treats and historic rides such as a ghost train or merry-go-round – all in honour of St. Rupert! St. Rupert’s Day is best visited in traditional lederhosen or dirndl costumes!
Rupert was a bishop who was bequeathed the Roman settlement of Juvavum (today: Salzburg) and in the year 696, laid the foundations for Salzburg as we know it today by founding the archabbey of St. Peter. He is the Patron Saint of Salzburg and is celebrated on 24 September.
