The Museum of (Non)Restitution

Based on objects from the collection of the Salzburg Museum, Thomas Geiger, Tatiana Lecomte, and Sophie Thun explore how the restitution of art objects and rights can change identities and the communities involved. They question the traditional view of restitution as a simple restoration of property rights and encourage visitors to reflect on the underlying issues of ownership and loss.

Co-produced by Salzburg Museum-Gastspiel and Salzburger Kunstverein-Picturing Justice 2025.
Curated by Mirela Baciak, Katja Mittendorfer-Oppolzer, and Susanne Rolinek
