City Walk: Instagrammable Salzburg
For the perfect Salzburg picture, you only need two things: the iconic Hohensalzburg Fortress in view and the best insider spots in the city. This city walk takes you to the most beautiful and surprising perspectives that are often known only to locals.
The route in detail
The route starts at Müllnersteg, a bridge offering one of the best panoramic views of the old town. From here, it leads up to Mönchsberg, where you can enjoy breathtaking views—from the Humboldt Terrace to the Museum of Modern Art and the Richterhöhe. Along the way, you’ll pass the Stupa, a Buddhist memorial and one of the city’s lesser-known corners. On the "back" side of the fortress, the path continues through the Nonntal valley, past the charming Krautwächter house. Cross the Karolinen Bridge to the right side of the Salzach River and explore the Steingasse, whose historic charm is perfect for nostalgic photos. For the grand finale, climb up the Capuchin Mountain, where the Hettwer Bastei rewards you with a fascinating view of the city. The final stops take you to the romantic "Rosenhügel" in Mirabell Gardens—a place that’s almost too beautiful to visit just once.
