City Walk: Instagrammable Salzburg
For the most beautiful picture of Salzburg, you need two things: the Hohensalzburg Fortress in view and the perfect location. This is where the knowledge of locals comes in handy, opening up unknown and surprising angles. This city walk is the ideal guide for anyone in search of that special picture.
The route in detail
To get a photogenic view of the fortress, it is best to follow this city walk off the beaten track. Starting from the Müllnersteg, the first section of the route leads up to the Mönchsberg, from where you can enjoy almost kitschy panoramic views of the old town. Along the way, lesser-known corners await with the Stupa or the Richterhöhe. On the "rear" of the fortress, you pass the Krautwächter-Häuschen and walk through the Nonntal over the Karolinen Bridge to the right side of the Salzach. The historic Steingasse creates the feeling of having travelled centuries into the past. The last stops on this city walk lead to the Kapuzinerberg and the Rosenhügel in the Mirabell Garden – two iconic views that every visitor has to have seen.
