City Walk: Mozart
Traces of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart can be found all over Salzburg to this day. Visiting his places of work and the museums dedicated to him, bring him to life – with modern art and culinary features, Mozart is just as relevant today as he was in the 18th century.
The route in detail
The city walk starts at Mozart's Birthplace in Getreidegasse and then continues straight across the river to the right bank of the Salzach. This takes you to the building of the Mozarteum Foundation, the guardian of Mozart's musical heritage. Next door to that, you can enjoy performances such as The Magic Flute at the Marionette Theatre all year round. Past the Mozarts' residence, the route leady to St. Sebastian's cemetery, where Mozart's father and widow are buried. Back across the river stands the famous Mozart monument on Mozartplatz – a great motif for a photo. The tour continues to the DomQuartier: As a seven-year-old, Mozart gave his first Salzburg court concert in the state rooms of the Residenz, and as a musician at the prince archbishop's court, he also composed for these rooms. The original baptismal font where Mozart was baptised, still stands in the Cathedral. The cemetery of St Peter is the final resting pace of his sister Nannerl. To round off the walk, you may want to enjoy a glass of almond milk at Café Tomaselli, as Mozart is said to have done frequently – or try an Original Salzburger Mozartkugel at Café Fürst.
