18 July – 31 August 2025
The Salzburg Festival is one of the world's most important festivals for opera, music and drama. The wide-ranging programme includes classics and world-famous artists as well as a varied programme for young people.
The 2025 Salzburg Festival runs from 18 July to 31 August. Around 222,500 tickets are available for 174 opera, drama and concert performances. Opera highlights include Peter Sellars' staging of Gustav Mahler's 'Der Abschied', drama offers 'The Last Days of Mankind' by Karl Kraus, and the concert programme celebrates Pierre Boulez's 100th birthday with the series 'À Pierre'. The Festival opens with the baroque opera 'Giulio Cesare in Egitto' by George Frideric Handel.
Opera
The theme connecting this year's Festival operas is "power", as exemplified in the baroque opera 'Giulio Cesare in Egitto' by George Frideric Handel, Gaetano Donizetti's 'Maria Stuarda' and Giuseppe Verdi's 'Macbeth' with Asmik Grigorian.
Drama
'Jedermann' [Everyman], again has Philipp Hochmair in the title role, with Deleila Piasko as his paramour, and a co-production with the Vienna Burgtheater brings 'The Last Days of Mankind' by Karl Kraus.
Concert
The motto of the 'Ouverture spirituelle' is "Fatum – Fate". The Vienna Philharmonic will perform five concerts, conducted by Andris Nelsons, Riccardo Muti, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Franz Welser-Möst and, for the first time, Lorenzo Viotti. Pierre Boulez's 100th birthday will be celebrated, and the 50th anniversary of the death of Dmitry Shostakovich remembered.
"jung & jede*r" – the youth programme of the Salzburg Festival
With 37 performances and numerous programmes for schools, from April to August, the Salzburg Festival once again offers a comprehensive educational programme for children and young people.
