Salzburg Salt Mines

Fun, fascination and mystical moments await visitors to the Salzburg salt mine. In addition to intriguing information about the arduous work done by miners in the past, visitors, big and small, will explore in the footsteps of the Ancient Celts, who were already mining salt here back in 400 BC.

In the Footsteps of the Celts

The Celts mined salt here as early as 400 BC. In the mountain, one might still hear their historic voices. In the Celtic Village SALINA, the history of the legendary people is also tracked on the surface. This original location with historical reconstructions of residential houses and workshops shows the daily life of miners over 2,500 years ago – and is the perfect complement to the Celtic Museum in Hallein.
