Vienna International Airport
Thanks to Vienna International Airport (VIE), Salzburg is easy to reach for travelers from all over the globe.
In just three hours and without having to change, you can ride the train from Vienna International Airport directly to Salzburg. Vienna International is Austria’s biggest airport and a main hub for Austrian Airlines (AUA), a subsidiary of Lufthansa.
Since December 2015, it has been possible to travel by train from Vienna-Schwechat Airport to Salzburg without having to transfer. The trip takes just under three hours. If you prefer to travel in by (rental) car, you can also reckon with a three-hour drive. When you leave the airport, first take the A4 autobahn, then get on the A1, which will bring you straight to Salzburg.
Vienna Airport is located in Schwechat, a small community located 16 kilometers south-east of central Vienna. The airport offers connections by S-Bahn (the commuter rail system) as well as regional and long-distance trains operated by Austrian Railways (ÖBB). In addition, the City Airport Train (CAT) provides an express connection to the Vienna city center.
