Salzburger HirtenAdvent (shepherds' advent)
The musical genre of "Advent singing" was born in Salzburg and is still an indispensable part of the pre-Christmas period in the town of Mozart. The Salzburger HirtenAdvent in the University auditorium is one of the most important events of this traditional form of music and presents a charming performance with folk music and shepherd children.
The Salzburg Shepherd's Advent, under the dramatic direction of Elisabeth and Josef Radauer, combines authentic folk music with thought-provoking texts that align with the tradition of Tobi and Tobias Reiser. The familial atmosphere and the spirited group of shepherd children touch the audience in an unparalleled way.
Known until 2017 as Tobi Reiser's Advent Singing, the Salzburg Shepherd's Advent has its roots in the Advent Singing at the Great Festival Hall. Companions of Tobi and Tobias Reiser chose to move in 2006 to the more intimate setting of the Great Hall of the University, focusing on traditional folk music there. Today, around 6,000 visitors experience a small, fine Advent singing each year, regarded as the perfect introduction to the Christmas season.
On the way from a remote farmhouse to the Rorate service, the children of the Karhof, accompanied by the old servant Barthl, experience true Christmas wonders. A touching story that evokes those nostalgic feelings we love to associate with Advent and Christmas year after year...
