Georg-Trakl Research and Memorial Site
The birthplace of the world-famous poet is open to researchers, students, literature enthusiasts, and anyone who wants to learn more about Georg Trakl and the literary life in Salzburg during the Belle Époque.
Georg Trakl's poems are among the most fascinating texts of literary modernism. Little known during the poet's lifetime (1887–1914), his work had an extraordinary impact after his tragic death. Today, Trakl is regarded worldwide as one of the most important lyricists in the German language.
The permanent exhibition "At Home with the Trakls" provides insight into the former family apartment in the birthplace at Waagplatz. You can expect a diverse presentation of documents and objects related to the life and work of Georg Trakl, an informative audio-visual presentation, and a room with original furniture and household items of the family.
In the midst of the hustle and bustle of the old town, the great tranquility of the house invites you to undisturbed contemplation of the exhibits and to reading texts by Trakl.
The educational offerings include private tours focusing on various themes, reading workshops, and tailored educational formats for school classes and students.
A varied program of literary and scientific events related to Georg Trakl informs about current developments in research, presents new interpretations, and provides space for shared discussions about literature.
The collections of the museum, archive, and research library are available on site for scientific, curatorial, and artistic projects. Workspaces are available upon prior registration.
